Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all the main features of the two maps comparing road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010. You accurately identified key transformations, such as the introduction of two roundabouts, the consolidation of bus stops into a single bus station, and the division of the car park into separate public and staff areas. The overview provided at the end captures the essence of the changes well, noting that the hospital became more modern and advanced. All parts of the prompt are addressed effectively with relevant details selected and compared, meeting the requirements for this criterion comfortably.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

Your essay demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organization. The report is divided into logical paragraphs, starting with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs detailing the 2007 map and the 2010 map, and concluding with a summary overview. You make use of suitable cohesive devices and sequencing phrases such as 'in 2007', 'by 2010', 'the former', and 'furthermore' to guide the reader through the spatial and temporal comparisons. However, minor mechanical and formatting issues in cohesion and referencing prevent a higher score, yet overall progression remains clear throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You utilized a sufficient and appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully employing functional terms related to maps and urban planning, such as 'junction', 'roundabout', 'entrance', and 'car park'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary items like 'conspicuous', 'readily apparent', and 'modern and advanced'. However, lexical control is slightly undermined by typographical and spelling errors, such as 'c AA ar park' and lowercase capitalization errors at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'it is conspicuous', 'ot can be observed', 'looking from the overall perspective, Lt'). These minor slips keep the lexical score at a solid band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a workable mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'while Hospital Road connected the hospital to City Road' and 'Two roundabouts were constructed on Hospital Road, one at the junction with City Road and the other near the hospital entrance.' Grammatical control is generally decent, and communication is never impeded by your errors. Nevertheless, there are mechanical and grammatical inaccuracies present, particularly sentence-boundary capitalization errors ('it is conspicuous', 'ot can be observed') and awkward phrasing in the final paragraph ('looking from the overall perspective, Lt is readily apparent...'). These warrant a band 6.
