Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the two maps comparing road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010. While it identifies some key changes, such as the public car park and the bus station, the selection of data is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear, comprehensive overview. For instance, descriptions such as 'Hospital road starts from the south to north direction where different types of plants seen' focus on minor details rather than overarching spatial arrangements. Furthermore, comparisons are underdeveloped and sometimes confusingly stated, such as 'circular chownk seen on the city which was straight in the year of 2000.' Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, aligning closely with the Band 5 descriptors where key features are presented rather mechanically and the overarching progression between the two years is obscured.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is organized into paragraphs with some introductory and concluding framing. However, the logical progression within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing references. For instance, phrases like 'Moving further to the next map which depicted the various changes' introduce paragraphs, but the internal sequencing fails to guide the reader smoothly from one feature to the next. Cohesive devices are either misused or overused mechanically, such as 'To commence with', 'While', and 'However'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks unity, as minor road details and infrastructural changes are lumped together without a clear thematic structure. This demonstrates characteristics of a Band 5 performance.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms like 'seen', 'change', and 'road'. There are numerous lexical errors and inappropriate word choices throughout the text, such as 'circular chownk', 'northern east part', and 'built on the opposite of the parking'. These inaccuracies reflect a limited and restricted lexical range that struggles to convey precise geographical and spatial relationships. While the meaning is occasionally retrievable, the recurrent errors in word formation and collocation place this submission firmly within the Band 5 descriptor range, where the vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task but lacks flexibility or precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent missing verbs and articles, such as 'parking space available in the east' and 'bus stop was in the east side of the city hospital.' Many sentences lack main verbs or are structurally incomplete, as seen in 'While, parking space available in the east' and 'in bus stop area and public car park changed in 2010.' These frequent errors in grammar and punctuation cause noticeable strain and difficulty for the reader, matching the profile of a Band 5 performance where complex sentences are heavily flawed.
