Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The two maps illustrate the changes made to the road access and parking facilities around a city hospital between 2007 and 2010.

Overall, it is clear that the road system around the hospital was considerably improved during this period. The original Hospital Road and separate bus stops were replaced by a roundabout and a bus station, while the single car park was divided into separate facilities for staff and the public.

In 2007, the hospital was surrounded by Ring Road, with Hospital Road providing access from City Road to the south. There were three bus stops on each side of Hospital Road, and a single car park for both staff and the public was located to the east of the hospital. The hospital itself was accessed directly from Hospital Road.

By 2010, several significant changes had taken place. A roundabout had been constructed at the junction of Hospital Road and City Road, providing improved access to the hospital. The former bus stops had been replaced by a bus station on the western side of Hospital Road. In addition, the original shared car park had been replaced by two separate parking areas. A public car park was built to the east of the hospital, while a staff car park was situated to the south-east, close to the new roundabout. The hospital entrance was also redesigned, with Hospital Road leading directly into the hospital area.
