Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to address the prompt by describing changes between the 2007 and 2010 maps, but it falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum requirement, containing only 126 words. Furthermore, the content fails to provide a comprehensive overview of the main features shown in the diagrams, missing major developments such as the new public car park, the reconfiguration of the staff car park, and the addition of roundabouts. The description is vague, overly narrative, and incomplete, trailing off mid-sentence at the end. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response attempts to use basic cohesive devices such as 'Overall' and 'In 2007', but the logical progression is weak. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete and unformatted. There are issues with referencing and sentence boundaries, making it difficult to follow the flow of information. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly, and the abrupt ending disrupts the overall structure of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The lexical range is limited and repetitive. The student uses basic vocabulary such as 'changes', 'road access', and 'parking facilities'. There are awkward collocations and inappropriate word choices, such as 'peoples have to suffer at walking distance' and 'stop parking'. Spelling and word formation are generally basic, and the incomplete final sentence demonstrates a lack of lexical control over the required descriptive language for Academic Task 1.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'city hospital has showed the dramatic changes' (incorrect article and tense usage), 'peoples have to suffer', and 'which came through bus'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'Overall, city hospital'). Complex structures are rarely attempted and, when used, are inaccurate and impede communication.
