Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, containing only 125 words, which places a ceiling on the Task Achievement score. While the student attempts to describe the main changes between the 2007 and 2010 maps—such as the addition of roundabouts, a new public car park, and a bus station—the analysis contains several inaccuracies and misreadings of the visual data. For instance, the claim that 'the hospital site became smaller following the construction of a roundabout' is incorrect, and terms like 'crossabout' are nonsensical in this context. Furthermore, the overview is extremely basic and fails to capture the spatial transformations adequately. To improve, the student must carefully study the visual data, write at least 150 words, and report key features objectively without inventing trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is divided into logical paragraphs, including an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs discussing different aspects of the maps. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor cohesive devices and unnatural transitions such as 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion', which are misused for a descriptive map task. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'these two facilities'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the overall structural control is weak due to the brevity and abrupt shifts between points. To achieve a higher band, the student should use cohesive devices more naturally and ensure clear referencing throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The lexical range is very limited and heavily restricted. The student uses basic vocabulary and invents non-standard terms such as 'crossabout' instead of roundabout, and misspells 'spae' (space) and 'deslocate' (travel/commute). There are frequent word choice errors, such as 'separing these two facilities, made the trajectory simple' and 'limited to patients, mainly whose used bus'. While some relevant vocabulary like 'car park', 'roundabout', and 'staff members' appears, the overall lexical control falls into the lower bands due to frequent errors that occasionally impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The text demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures with frequent errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement and clause construction, such as 'The diagram shows two different maps whose have directions' and 'there's two crossabout who substitued'. Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent ('staff members of hospital', 'at hospital'). Although a few simple sentences are grammatically correct, the frequent errors in complex structures and basic verb forms cause noticeable strain for the reader.
