Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to summarise the main changes between the two maps, noting the ring road, the hospital road, the relocation of the car parks, and the addition of roundabouts and a bus station. However, the analysis is superficial and contains several inaccuracies in describing spatial relationships. Furthermore, the response is 149 words long, falling just short of the 150-word minimum requirement, which incurs a penalty. Overall, the task is addressed only partially due to the under-developed reporting of features and the length violation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The organisation of the text is very basic and disjointed. The response is divided into three brief paragraphs, but the logical progression between sentences is severely hindered by poor phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Referencing is frequently unclear, such as 'the ring road cover as usually hospital centrally', making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak and mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very limited and repetitive, with basic terms like 'road', 'hospital', 'car park', and 'bus stop'. There are numerous word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'map illustrate' instead of 'maps illustrate', 'hostpital', 'aound', and 'opposite site'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with very poor control and accuracy, meaning the lexical range is only minimally adequate for the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of fragmented or poorly constructed simple sentences. There is a complete lack of accurate complex structures. Frequent errors in verb tenses, prepositions, and sentence construction—such as 'In this map city hospital since 2007 which show few things' and 'there is two roundabout of hospital road'—impede comprehension and cause significant difficulty for the reader.
