Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the hospital road access maps between 2007 and 2010. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, highlighting major developments such as the new bus station, car park relocation, and roundabouts. Key features are adequately covered, including the removal of individual bus stops, the construction of two roundabouts, and the division of the car park into staff and public zones. While some minor descriptive details could be more fully elaborated, the response satisfies the requirements well, earning a band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized logically with a clear introduction, overview, and supporting body paragraphs detailing the changes. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "Overall," "A meticulous analysis," and "Furthermore." However, some transitions and referencing feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and paragraphing could be structured with greater precision to separate distinct spatial changes. Despite these minor limitations, the overall organization presents a clear progression of information, justifying a band 6.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as "infrastructure," "meticulous analysis," and "relocation." However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as "forementioned years" (aforementioned), "removal of three bus stop" (stops), and "initially, single car parking." Spelling and morphological errors occur, but they do not impede communication. This performance aligns with the descriptors for a band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing plural forms ("two roundabout"), missing articles ("on city road and hospital road junction"), and awkward phrasing. While these errors do not impede overall understanding, they occur frequently enough to prevent the score from reaching the 6.5 threshold, making a band 6.0 appropriate.
