Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The student has failed to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 101 words, which significantly impacts the score for Task Achievement. Furthermore, the response is largely undeveloped and contains memorised, irrelevant template phrases at the beginning ('As far as ths topic is concerned...'). While the student correctly identifies a few changes between the two maps, such as the addition of a public car park, the overview is extremely basic and fails to fully summarise the main features and comparisons required by the task prompt. Consequently, the ideas are limited, under-developed, and the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The response lacks proper paragraphing, consisting of only three short, poorly connected blocks of text. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with clumsy transitions such as 'At the begining of the period. We saw that...' creating a disjointed flow. The overall logical progression is weak, and referencing between sentences is often unclear, meaning that information and ideas are not arranged coherently enough to reach a higher band level.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and heavily reliant on simple terms found directly in the prompt (e.g., 'hospital', 'ring road', 'bus station', 'car park'). There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'ths' instead of 'this', 'begining' instead of 'beginning', and 'relative same' instead of 'relatively the same'. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for communication, but errors and lack of less common vocabulary prevent it from reaching Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent punctuation and capitalisation errors (e.g., missing spaces after commas and periods, such as 'Overall,it is clear...'). Attempts at more complex structures are faulty or absent. Grammatical errors are frequent, including tense inconsistencies ('We saw that there are...') and missing articles, which can cause some difficulty for the reader.
