Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers several main features of the two maps, such as the addition of the roundabouts, the new bus station, and the changes to the car parks. An overview is attempted with the sentence, "Overall, Hospital undergoes with several upgradation..." However, the word count is only 111 words, which falls short of the required 150-word minimum. This results in a direct penalty to Task Achievement, as the development of ideas is limited by the brevity of the response. To achieve a higher band, you must ensure you meet the minimum word count and expand further on the spatial relationships and changes shown.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into short paragraphs that separate the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs for each year. Progression is somewhat evident in moving from 2007 to 2010. However, cohesive devices are quite basic, and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., "staff car parking is on its previous location"). Furthermore, the paragraphing is underdeveloped due to the overall short length of the text. To improve, use a wider range of linking phrases to guide the reader smoothly between temporal and spatial shifts.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some appropriate terms such as "prominent," "dedicated," and "roundabouts." However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as "The maps illustrates" (plural/singular mismatch) and "hospital undergoes with several upgradation" (incorrect preposition and pluralisation form). Less common vocabulary is attempted but lacks precision. Expanding your range of synonyms and ensuring accurate word forms will significantly improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ("The maps illustrates"), awkward verb tenses ("Hospital undergoes with"), and missing articles (e.g., "in south east side"). Although communication is generally not severely impeded, the high frequency of basic grammatical inaccuracies prevents the score from reaching Band 6.0.
