Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The student attempts to summarise the main features of the maps, noting the construction of roundabouts, a bus station, and changes to parking areas. An overview is provided at the beginning. However, the response is severely underdeveloped and incomplete, cutting off abruptly in the final sentence ("...two roundabouts is added to a junction"). Furthermore, the length requirement of 150 words is not met, as the response contains only 109 words. This significantly impacts task completion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The writing is divided into short paragraphs, attempting to contrast the two years using transitional phrases such as "In 2007" and "By 2010". However, because the text is incomplete and cuts off mid-sentence at the end, the overall progression is disrupted. Cohesive devices are basic, and referencing between sentences is occasionally unclear, such as the sudden shift into the final uncompleted thought.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive ("significant improvements", "main changes", "road system"). There are some lexical errors, such as misspelling "duting" instead of "during" and awkward phrasing like "car park of the staff and public was on the both sides". The range is minimally adequate for the task, but lacks the precision and variety expected for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentences, but grammatical control is weak. There is a subject-verb agreement error in the opening sentence ("The maps illustrates") and tense consistency issues, such as shifting incorrectly into the present tense ("the road system is considerably redesigned, two roundabouts is added"). Punctuation is also neglected in places, such as missing commas or conjunctions in lists.
