Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student covers all key features of the maps, successfully highlighting the main changes such as the reconfiguration of the car parks, the relocation of the bus station, and the addition of roundabouts. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, though it is slightly informal in tone. While the main developments are reported, some details are imprecise, such as describing the roundabouts as being added 'on either side of the hospital road'. Overall, the task is adequately addressed, earning a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is arranged into four paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for the specific changes. However, referencing and transitions are somewhat mechanical and faulty, utilizing phrases like 'firstly, we can start with' and 'Then coming to the bustation'. Paragraphing is also erratic, with the overview awkwardly placed directly after the introduction in a very short paragraph. Cohesive devices are overused or inappropriate for an academic report. These issues place the response at a Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to communicate the basic changes on the maps, using terms such as 'parking area', 'relocated', and 'roundabouts'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('acces', 'seperate', 'aloted', 'bustation', 'futhermore', 'towars') and awkward word choices ('common' instead of 'shared', 'remained same'). Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success and spelling inaccuracy, restricting the score to a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are several punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('overall', 'firstly') and run-on sentences lacking proper punctuation (e.g., 'In 2010 the seperate parking area was aloted for the public beside the hospital towards east . while , parking for employees remained same.'). Grammatical errors and punctuation slips are frequent enough to occasionally cause difficulty, supporting a Band 5.0.
