Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all the main features of the maps, successfully identifying the addition of roundabouts, the restructuring of the car parking facilities, and the replacement of individual bus stops with a centralised bus station. The overview adequately summarises the general transformation that took place between 2007 and 2010. However, some descriptions are slightly informal or imprecise, such as "little bit changes on bus stop to bus station", and there are minor inaccuracies in naming and description. Nevertheless, the response successfully fulfills the core requirements of Academic Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for 2007 and 2010. This provides a clear structural framework. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or poorly managed, as seen in phrases like "where as in 2010, major changes we can see here." Referencing is also occasionally unclear or abrupt. Paragraphing is present and helps segregate the time periods, but overall logical progression between sentences requires smoother transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe common map features such as roads, car parks, and roundabouts. However, the range is limited, and there are several noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as "Hospitak" instead of Hospital, "differnet", "teo" instead of two, and "fir" instead of for. Attempts at less common vocabulary lead to awkward phrasing, such as "totally improved" and "little bit changes".
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent basic errors, including missing verbs (e.g., "the two maps shows", "Hospitak road is direct", "car parking was changed and make it separate"), incorrect prepositions, and faulty punctuation. Capitalisation rules are also frequently ignored at the start of sentences. These errors occasionally disrupt the flow, but communication remains understandable.
