Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by selecting and reporting the main features of the two maps from 2007 and 2010. An overview is provided, noting the development and renovation of road access, roundabouts, car parks, and the bus station. Key comparisons are made between the two years, such as the separation of staff and public car parking and the replacement of individual bus stops with a designated bus station. However, the overview is somewhat fragmented, and certain details, such as the exact locations of the new roundabouts and public car park, could have been more fully integrated into a cohesive summary. Nonetheless, all major spatial transformations are captured accurately based on the visual data provided, fulfilling the core requirements of Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical progression, moving from an introductory statement to an overview, followed by specific body paragraphs detailing car parking and bus facilities. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different features of the maps. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly deployed, as seen in transitions like 'Initially, in the year 2007...' and 'Finally, dicussing about the bus facility...'. Referencing is mostly clear, though some sentences run on or lack smooth logical links, placing this response firmly in the Band 6 descriptor category for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to maps and urban planning such as 'development', 'renovation', 'traffic congestion', 'junction', and 'upgraded'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'depicts' matching a plural subject ('maps' - though corrected later, agreement slips), 'havve', 'hosital', 'round abouts', 'seperate', and 'dicussing'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect a limited control of spelling and less common lexical items, preventing the score from reaching Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and participial phrases (e.g., 'which have been upgraded', 'thus helping the people for better travelling facility'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'The maps depicts', 'city hospital have two round abouts', 'the staff and public car parking is seperate', and 'hospital road was equipped with few bus stops and it has been upgraded'. These persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and punctuation slightly disrupt the flow of reading, aligning the grammatical performance with Band 5.5.
