Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to summarize the main changes between the two maps, noting the reconfiguration of the car parks, the addition of roundabouts, and the new bus station. However, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, standing at 144 words, which incurs a penalty. Furthermore, some descriptions are inaccurate or confusing, such as stating that the staff park was located 'in south after hospital road' and claiming that the bus stop was 'fare away from hospital' in 2007. The overview is rudimentary ('ring road and city road reamed same as it was'). Because of the incomplete word count and limited, imprecise development of key features, this response aligns with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text attempts a logical structure by using introductory, overview, and detail paragraphs, yet the progression is disjointed. Paragraphing is rudimentary and sentences often trail off or end abruptly, such as the final sentence ('Additional, it the staff to park car and directly go to his'). Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and frequently misused, as seen with transitional phrases like 'Moreover,in 2007' and 'In addition , city road and main road reamed same as it was'. Referencing is also unclear in places, making the flow difficult to follow. This level of organization and cohesive control corresponds to Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 due to a discernible overall attempt to group information.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. Words are frequently misspelled or misused, such as 'reamed' instead of 'remained', 'fare' instead of 'far', 'factily' instead of 'facilities', and 'depict' missing an '-s' inflection ('The map depict'). The student attempts some topic-specific terms like 'car park', 'roundabout', and 'bus station', but the range is severely limited, and errors in word choice and spelling cause noticeable strain for the reader. This performance reflects Band 4.5 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammar is characterized by frequent, basic errors across simple and complex structures. There is a lack of control over basic verb tenses, subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The map depict'), and prepositions (e.g., 'in east side' instead of 'on the east side'). Sentence structures are often fragmented or grammatically incomplete, particularly the final sentence which breaks off mid-thought. Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic throughout. These persistent, intrusive errors restrict the writer to Band 4.0.
