Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student covers the main features of the two maps well, noting the addition of roundabouts, the reorganisation of the car parks, and the new bus station by 2010. However, there are some inaccuracies in reporting the details; for instance, the text claims 'in 2007 there were no car parking', whereas the map clearly shows a combined staff and public car park. Additionally, there is a major typographical error regarding the year ('1007' instead of '2007'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the overall trends and comparisons between 2007 and 2010 are successfully identified and outlined, satisfying the core requirements of Task 1.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response is arranged coherently with a logical overall progression, moving from an introductory overview into body paragraphs detailing specific changes. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different features like car parks and transport infrastructure. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly handled, such as the abrupt transitions ('On the other hand In 2010'). Referencing and punctuation are occasionally faulty, but the overall structure allows the reader to follow the progression of changes easily.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to map descriptions, such as 'roundabouts', 'transport infrastructure', and 'designated'. However, there are several lexical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'illustraites', 'parking' used instead of 'park', and 'roads roundabout'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited control over word choice and collocation, keeping the response at a Band 5.5 to 6 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'In 2007, there was a...' and 'However, by 2010, a separate car park had been created...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are errors in capitalization (e.g., lowercase 'the provided maps'), punctuation, and article usage (e.g., '2 roundabout' instead of 'two roundabouts'). While these errors do not impede overall comprehension, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
