Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The two maps below reprents road structure around the city hospital in 2007 and 2009 respectively.

Overall, the ring road and staff parking area remains same. there is only one road access to the hospital with a couple of roundabout added later on.

In 2007 the road map was very simple and straight forward with a ring road covering all of the hospital and and one main enterance and joint parking for staff and public which was later specified for staff in 2011.

In 2011 a roundabout was made exactly at the entrance of hospital and another roundabout at point where city road and hospital road connects

a new parking lot was made ate the right side of hospital for public. The bus stop was shifted at the left side of college road which was far away in 2007. there was another minor change, a new roundabout was also made near city hospital on city road .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to summarise the main features of the maps, there are notable inaccuracies regarding the timeline provided in the prompt (referring to 2009 and 2011 instead of 2007 and 2010). Furthermore, some details are misread or confused, such as mentioning the 'college road' which does not appear in the source data. The overview is somewhat limited and under-developed, capturing only basic changes without fully synthesizing the overall spatial transformation of the hospital's road access and parking facilities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response displays some basic organisation with paragraph breaks used to separate the introduction, overall summary, and body details, but there is no clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, and occasionally inaccurate, such as repetitive transitions and imprecise referencing like 'which was later specified for staff in 2011'. Paragraphing lacks sufficient control to guide the reader smoothly through the comparative analysis of the two map periods, leading to a choppy and disjointed flow overall.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student uses basic vocabulary such as 'road map', 'simple', and 'right side', along with noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, including 'reprents' instead of 'represents', 'enterance', and 'ate' instead of 'at'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are constrained by these inaccuracies, which occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in discerning exact locations and features.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences joined by basic coordinators. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as run-on structures ('...ring road covering all of the hospital and and one main enterance and joint parking for staff and public which was later specified for staff in 2011'). There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, punctuation, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the ring road and staff parking area remains same', 'a roundabout was made'), which can cause strain for the reader.
