Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Given two maps compare road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.The key difference between these maps is the spacious parking in the 2010 map as compared to the 2007 map.

For patients to get quickly facilitated by hospital the access to its entrance is very crucial. In 2007 map, there is limited parking space for both staff and patients which causes delay in reaching the hospital. Moreover, the bus station in this map is also very far which makes it very difficult for people who does not have their vehicle to reach the hospital timely.

On the other hand, there is improved and well-coordinated design used for 2010 map.The parking is made spacious.Additionally, separate parking for both staff and patients has contributed to the easy flow of both patients and employees. Moreover, the buses have also been given the opportunity to drop patients in front of hospital making it easier for them.

Hence, reaching the hospital in time and saving additional time which can be wasted in parking is very essential for saving a patient's life. And this is the strategy used by the hospital as shown in 2010 map to make meaningful change in people's life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the main features of the two maps, noting the changes to parking and the bus arrangements between 2007 and 2010. However, the analysis is limited and relies heavily on speculation and personal reasoning regarding patient care and hospital strategy, such as stating that limited parking causes delays or that changes are meant 'for saving a patient's life,' rather than focusing strictly on the visual data provided. Consequently, some ideas are under-developed or peripheral to a standard academic task response, and the overview lacks a clear summary of all spatial layout changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding thought. Paragraphing is used to separate different aspects of the maps, such as the 2007 layout versus the 2010 modifications. However, referencing and cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or lack smooth transitions, as seen in the repetitive use of connectors like 'moreover' and 'hence'. To achieve a higher band, the logical progression between sentences needs to be more fluid, and cohesive devices should be employed with greater flexibility and less repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts at less common phrasing such as 'spacious parking,' 'well-coordinated design,' and 'easy flow.' However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'For patients to get quickly facilitated by hospital' and 'people who does not have their vehicle.' Spelling is generally accurate, but word choice lacks the precision and flexibility expected at higher levels. To improve, the writer should focus on natural word combinations and precise academic terminology when describing visual data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'people who does not have their vehicle' and 'in 2007 map' missing the article 'the'. Punctuation errors are also present, notably missing spaces after commas and periods. While communication is not severely impeded, the frequency of basic grammatical slips keeps the writing within the lower intermediate range. A broader variety of error-free complex structures and closer attention to grammatical rules are needed to progress.
