Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the task by outlining changes between the 2007 and 2010 hospital maps, but the coverage is partial and contains inaccuracies. While the writer identifies shifts such as the division of the car park and the introduction of a new public parking area, key features like the new roundabouts and the bus station relocation are misreported or confused. For instance, the text claims that 'the bus stop and in the roundabout are remained same', which directly contradicts the visual data showing new roundabouts and a bus station replacing individual stops. Furthermore, the overview is imprecise and mechanically phrased. To reach a higher level, the response needs to accurately select and report the most salient features without factual inaccuracies and provide a clearer, more comprehensive summary of the overall trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has some organizational structure, featuring distinct paragraphs that attempt to introduce, overview, and detail the map comparisons. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression and logical flow between sentences. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately, such as the repetitive use of time markers like 'In 2007' and awkward transitions like 'Turning towards the remaning details'. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships described, such as the muddled explanation of bus facilities. To improve Coherence and Cohesion, the writer should employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive ties and ensure that ideas are sequenced logically to guide the reader smoothly through the spatial comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'car parking', 'road', and 'bigest'. There are noticeable spelling errors ('bigest', 'remaning', 'sepreated', 'nervertheless', 'build') and awkward word choices or collocations, such as 'several sitting' to describe the bus stops. These lexical slips and inaccuracies occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate a broader range of vocabulary, including less common and more precise functional terms relevant to describing maps and urban changes, alongside improved accuracy in spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense confusion ('had remained', 'is near', 'was located' mixed inappropriately), missing articles ('in parking', 'on the east side'), and faulty prepositional usage. For example, sentences such as 'It is evident that the bigest changes in the parking...' lack a verb clause to complete the thought, and 'the car parking for public it was build' exhibits severe structural disruption. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer must focus on sentence variety, proper subject-verb agreement, and accurate tense consistency.
