Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes a minimal attempt to address the task by discussing the two maps showing the city hospital in 2007 and 2010. However, the information is presented in a very disjointed, fragmented manner. While the student mentions features such as the Ring Road, Hospital Road, the car parks, and the bus station, these details are not clearly selected or reported to provide an accurate summary of the changes. The overview at the end ('the better maps the year of 2010') is highly subjective and fails to outline the main trends or significant transformations, such as the addition of roundabouts and the rearrangement of the car parks and bus facilities. Consequently, the response sits at this lower band because the information is only communicated tangentially, with key visual data misreported or poorly understood.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation in the response, with the text divided into distinct paragraphs representing the introduction, the two map years, and a brief conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical flow of ideas. Transitional phrases such as 'First of all' and 'Secondly' are used, but they are mechanically applied and fail to connect the sentences logically. Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear, as seen in expressions like 'the city hospital maps change to 2007' and 'the city hospital roundabout center road the hospital road', which make the spatial relationships difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are largely inadequate or misused, resulting in a text that lacks a smooth, coherent narrative across the two time periods.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and heavily reliant on direct lifting of terms from the prompt, such as 'Ring road', 'city hospital', and 'Hospital road'. There are frequent word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'parking the cars the staff and the pubilc', 'upar side', and 'the parkin g of public car park'. Spelling and word-formation errors, including 'difine', 'amnd', and spacing issues, are also present. The lexical range is severely limited, and these noticeable inaccuracies and inappropriate word forms often strain the reader's understanding and impede smooth communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple and fail to form complete, grammatically correct clauses; many lack essential verbs, subjects, or correct prepositions (e.g., 'The Ring road rounded of city hospital and show the center road the hospital road'). Errors in basic sentence construction, word order, and missing articles are frequent throughout the text. These persistent errors distort the meaning in several places and can cause considerable difficulty for the reader when attempting to follow the descriptions of the maps.
