Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response responds to the task only minimally and fails to meet the word count requirement, falling short by 3 words after excluding prompt-copied material. The student attempts to report changes between the two maps, such as mentioning the new public car park and the bus station in 2010, but the information is presented in a very confused and repetitive manner. Key features are inadequately selected and poorly reported, with vague descriptions like "look like a latest version" and "ring road that looks very exthatic." There is no clear overview of the overall changes that took place between 2007 and 2010, resulting in a minimal attempt at summarising the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. The text lacks any paragraphing, appearing as a single dense block of text, which makes the progression extremely difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, relying on repetitive transitional phrases like "when we enter" and "and the west side" rather than logical connectors appropriate for describing maps. The referencing between the 2007 features and the 2010 features is confused, creating a jumbled narrative where spatial relationships are obscured.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing simple words and frequent inaccuracies that strain the reader. The student relies heavily on elementary descriptions, using words like "latest version" and spelling errors such as "fistly" instead of firstly and "exthatic" instead of aesthetic. There is a lack of precise spatial and geographical vocabulary needed for Task 1 map descriptions, such as 'situated', 'relocated', or 'demolished'. While basic communication of some visual elements is attempted, the limited range and word-choice errors restrict the clarity of the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and run-on sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions. Errors are frequent throughout the text, including severe punctuation issues (such as missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and missing spaces after periods), subject-verb agreement errors like "road access were" and "north side are", and incorrect article usage. These frequent errors distort meaning and make the grammatical control weak, reflecting basic sentence structures with persistent mechanical slips.
