Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview and detailing the key changes between the 2007 and 2010 maps of the city hospital. The overview clearly highlights major developments such as the introduction of the public car park, bus station, and roundabouts. However, some parts are more fully developed than others; for instance, the description of the transformation of the car park on the east side of the hospital lacks precise clarity regarding its exact capacity shift, and some features like the specific arrangement of the bus lanes are slightly under-developed. Nevertheless, the main trends and comparisons are accurately selected and reported, meeting the expectations for this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs detailing specific spatial changes. Information is logically sequenced from the general layout alterations to specific roadside features. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the comparisons, using markers such as "To commence with", "However", and "Moreover". However, cohesion occasionally becomes somewhat mechanical, and referencing is slightly awkward in places, such as "Movinf further" (which contains a typo) and the transitional flow between sentences. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different areas of the map changes, resulting in a clear progression of ideas throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task, attempting less common terms such as "alterations", "demolishment", and "regulate". However, there are notable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as "Movinf" instead of moving, "hostpital" instead of hospital, and "an another" instead of another. Collocations and word forms show occasional awkwardness, such as saying the establishment of a bus station "resulted in demolishment of bus stops" rather than their removal. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main features of the visual data clearly, and the lexical slips do not impede overall comprehension.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and prepositional phrases. There are, however, some recurring errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include missing articles («The given maps illustrates» where it should be either map illustrates or maps illustrate), incorrect prepositions ("during the three years of span"), and agreement issues. Complex structures occasionally contain errors, such as dangling modifiers or awkward participial phrases like "resulted in demolishment". While these errors are noticeable, they do not obscure the intended meaning and communication is rarely impeded.
