Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response falls well short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 107 words, which severely restricts the extent to which the task can be answered. While the student attempts to highlight a few key changes between 2007 and 2010—such as the creation of a public car park on the east side and the introduction of a bus station—the information is presented minimally and lacks a clear, fully developed overview. Important features like the addition of roundabouts and the reconfiguration of the hospital roads are either missing or only vaguely described. To improve, you must write at least 150 words and ensure a clear overview of the main trends is provided alongside specific comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The organization of the response is extremely basic, and information and ideas are not arranged coherently. The text is written as a single dense block with very poor paragraphing and logical progression. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with repetitive and mechanical links such as 'and also created' and 'and the rest of things'. Pronoun referencing is unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between the 2007 and 2010 maps. To progress, you should group related information logically, use clear introductory and concluding sentences, and employ a wider range of appropriate cohesive links to guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, demonstrating basic control. The student relies heavily on simple, repetitive terms such as 'development', 'changing', and 'created'. There are noticeable word-form and collocation errors, such as 'form' instead of 'from', 'numbers of changing' instead of 'numerous changes', and 'jount both roads' instead of connecting them. These lexical inaccuracies and basic spellings restrict the precision of the descriptions. To achieve a higher band, you need to incorporate a wider and more precise range of vocabulary related to spatial changes and urban planning, using appropriate collocations to describe modifications to infrastructure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and severely flawed sentence forms. There are frequent, heavy errors in basic grammar, including tense usage ('the map give information', 'it can seen'), missing articles ('to east side', 'at front side'), incorrect prepositions ('form 2007 to 2010', 'changing to west side into a east'), and faulty verb forms ('hospital entery on sounth'). These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and distort meaning at times. To improve, you must focus on foundational grammatical accuracy, proper subject-verb agreement, accurate prepositional use, and correct sentence construction.
