Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main features of the hospital road access and parking layout between 2007 and 2010. An overview is provided, highlighting key developments such as the construction of roundabouts and the reorganisation of parking areas. However, some parts of the response are under-developed or lack clarity, such as the descriptions of bus routes and precise locations. The reporting tends to generalise rather than fully extend and support every comparison, placing the response squarely within the expectations for this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, overview, and body details. Information is generally presented in a logical sequence moving from general layout to specific changes. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, seen in phrases like 'Moreover' and 'Furthermore' which are used somewhat repetitively, and referencing is not always completely clear when describing spatial changes, such as 'cross the road staff car park built'. Overall progression is present, but cohesive devices require more skilful integration.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate the main spatial changes. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'significant changes', 'development', and 'reorganised', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling errors ('mad', 'roundboats', 'seperation', 'rounboats') and word-choice inaccuracies. While these errors do not seriously impede communication because the context is clear, they restrict the vocabulary score to a lower intermediate level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors regarding articles ('the main development were', 'bus station was connected'), plurals, and missing prepositions or incorrect clause structures ('there were a lot of change in that area two new rounboats were constructed'). While communication is rarely completely blocked, errors occur frequently enough across basic and complex structures to characterise the grammatical profile at this level.
