Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by comparing the two maps of the city hospital in 2007 and 2010. You successfully identify key features such as the introduction of roundabouts, the relocation of car parking spaces, and changes to bus facilities. However, some parts of the response lack clarity or are under-developed. For instance, the exact locations of the new features in 2010 are sometimes vague or slightly inaccurate, such as describing the public car park location as 'at the top east-north side of the ring road'. To reach a higher level, you should ensure that all major visual changes are reported with greater precision and extended detail, giving a clearer overall picture of the spatial modifications across the two time periods.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs detailing the specific changes. You attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In 2007', and 'While in 2010'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, sentences within the body paragraphs are occasionally run-on or lack smooth transitional links, making the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed. To improve, focus on structuring sentences more clearly and using cohesive ties naturally to guide the reader effortlessly through the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary range is adequate to accomplish the task, and you make valid attempts to use less common items such as 'modernised', 'advancements', 'improvised', and 'additoon'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'recogniseable', 'seperate', 'improvised' (where 'improved' or 'redesigned' would be more precise), and 'additoon'. Collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'progress of road'. To achieve a higher band, you need to broaden your lexical repertoire, use words with greater precision and correct spelling, and demonstrate a stronger command of word forms and appropriate academic collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the response. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage that persist, such as 'comparing the progress of road in year 2007', missing articles like 'the city road', and comma splices in compound sentences. While these errors rarely impede communication entirely, they are common enough to prevent the grammar score from rising. To improve, you should pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage within structural patterns, and the punctuation of complex sentences to ensure greater accuracy.
