Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to cover the main features of the maps, but the overview is incomplete and fragmented, reading more like a list of bullet points than a proper summary ("Overall, biggest general changes (e.g., public car park , bus station and staaf car park."). While some key changes are mentioned—such as the addition of roundabouts, the separation of the staff and public car parks, and the relocation of transport facilities—several details are inaccurate or confusingly described. For instance, stating that the bus stop moved to the west side ignores the original configuration, and the description of the new layout lacks clarity. The information is presented with a limited selection of features, and the lack of a fully realized overview places the response at this level. To reach higher bands, you should write a complete introductory overview sentence outlining the principal trends, and ensure all key spatial changes are reported accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates a basic level of organization, using some transitional markers such as "To begin with" and "Moving further" to structure the response. However, there is no clear overall progression, and the paragraphing is underdeveloped, with the second paragraph collapsing into an incomplete fragment. Cohesive devices are used rather mechanically and repetitively, and referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the precise spatial relationships between the hospital, roads, and car parks. To improve coherence and cohesion, you should ensure that every paragraph contains a complete sentence with a clear main idea, and use a wider variety of logical connectors to link your observations about the maps smoothly and logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, relying heavily on basic terms and repeating words like "car park", "road", and "bus station" multiple times. There are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as "depicts" combined with a plural subject ("maps depicts"), "staaf" instead of staff, "splited" instead of split, and "bulit" instead of built. These lexical inaccuracies and the narrow range of vocabulary restrict the precision with which you can describe geographical and infrastructural changes. To achieve a higher band, you need to incorporate a broader range of less common and precise vocabulary related to maps and urban planning, such as "relocate", "designate", "demolish", and "reconfigure", while paying careful attention to standard spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional, mostly faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("The two maps depicts"), missing articles ("city hospital is at the same place", "in east side"), prepositional errors, and confused verb tenses and forms ("the roundabout is bulit", "the hospital road is straight where as in 2010 there was 2 round about that split"). These frequent errors frequently distract the reader and obscure the precise meaning of your sentences. To improve your grammar, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, consistent tense usage in descriptive tasks, correct article usage with geographical features, and accurate prepositional phrasing.
