Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad change over time and mention several relevant features, including the bus station, roundabouts and separate car parks. However, the account is only partial and some details are inaccurate or unclear: in 2010 there are two roundabouts, one at each end of Hospital Road, not a roundabout simply on the hospital’s east side; the bus stops were replaced by a bus station, rather than a bus stop being moved from east to west. The 2007 layout is also misreported: the shared car park was east of Hospital Road, while bus stops were on both sides of it. The overview is too general to highlight the main changes precisely. The response is also three words below the required minimum. Describe the key changes accurately and include a clearer comparison of both maps.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview and separate descriptions of the two years. This gives the reader some sense of sequence, and time markers such as “In 2007” and “At present” help distinguish the maps. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several details are difficult to follow because relationships and locations are not clearly expressed. For example, “A bus stop has build in east side replace with west side” does not make the intended change clear. Linking words such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” are used, but they do not consistently create logical connections. Group the changes by feature—road layout, parking and bus facilities—and use clear location references to make comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “ring road,” “car park,” “bus station” and “roundabout,” so the reader can recognise the subject. However, the range is limited, and inaccurate word choice, spelling and collocation sometimes make the description hard to understand. Examples include “city road hospital,” “busw stop,” “mainly palce” and “more developed place”; the last phrase does not describe a specific map change. Some location phrases are also imprecise, such as “in different side.” Use standard map language and precise verbs, for example “was replaced by,” “was converted into” and “was located to the east of.” Check spelling carefully, especially for key labels, because errors in these terms can obscure the information.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the response uses past-time framing for the 2007 map and present-time framing for 2010. However, control of sentence structure and basic grammar is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships unclear. For example, “The map illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “A bus stop has build” has an incorrect verb form. Articles and repeated words are also problematic in “At present the the roundabout,” and the sentence beginning “In 2007 a city hospital and ring road where located” contains an incorrect verb form. Most sentences would benefit from a clear subject, verb and location phrase. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and simple comparison structures before adding longer clauses; proofread for agreement, articles and punctuation.
