Student answer (Band 5.5)
The two maps illustrates the road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Overall, In 2007 there was no roundabout in front and back of the hospital road but in 2010 its constructed. The major change is the bus station and the car parking.
The bus station is not in map of 2007 but it was later constructed in 2010. The parking area in 2007 is for both public and staff members of the hospital however, It is Reserved only for the public in 2010. There are 6 bus stops in 2007 map but these stops are later distroyed to make bus station in 2010.
The roundabouts are constructed in 2010, In 2007 there is no roundabout in the map. One roundabout is constructed in front of the hospital (in the north direction). And the other is built just before the starting of the hospital road (in the south direction)

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main changes: the addition of two roundabouts and a bus station, the removal of the individual bus stops, and the change to the parking arrangements. The overview also signals that the road layout changed. However, some details are inaccurate: the 2010 car park beside Hospital Road is for staff, while the new public car park is east of Ring Road; your account reverses this. The roundabouts are at the junctions of Hospital Road with Ring Road and City Road, rather than simply “in front” of the hospital or before the road starts. The response is also 142 words, below the required 150. Add accurate location details and a fuller comparison of the access arrangements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs describing changes. This helps the reader follow the broad comparison. However, progression is limited because the bus and parking changes are grouped together, then the roundabouts are discussed in a way that partly repeats the overview. Linking is also sometimes mechanical: “but” and “however” carry much of the contrast, and the reference in “these stops are later destroyed to make bus station” suggests a direct replacement that the maps do not establish. Organise the details by feature or by year, and use clearer links such as “Meanwhile” or “In addition” to show how each change relates to the others.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “bus station,” “bus stops” and “parking area,” so the main features are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and some choices are imprecise or informal for describing maps. “In front and back of the hospital road” and “starting of the hospital road” do not clearly identify the junctions; “at the northern and southern ends of Hospital Road” would be more precise. “Distroyed” is misspelled, and “constructed” is repeated where “added” or “introduced” would sound more natural. “Reserved only for the public” also mislabels the parking arrangement. Aim for accurate location phrases and varied verbs for describing changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You communicate the main points using simple sentences and some contrast clauses, for example, “The bus station is not in map of 2007 but it was later constructed in 2010.” However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships unclear. The opening has subject–verb disagreement (“maps illustrates”), and “in map of 2007” is missing an article. Tense and form are inconsistent in “its constructed,” while “The roundabouts are constructed in 2010” uses an unsuitable present tense for a completed change. Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent, as in “Overall, In 2007” and “however, It.” Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and article use, and proofread sentence boundaries and punctuation.
