Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several relevant features, including the shared staff-and-public car park in 2007, its later designation as a staff car park, and the addition of a bus station and public car park by 2010. However, the response only minimally reports the maps’ main changes and does not give a clear overview comparing the two layouts. The claim that the hospital became much larger is not supported by the maps, and the description of routes and turns is confusing or inaccurate. Important changes, such as the removal of the individual bus stops and the addition of roundabouts at both ends of Hospital Road, are not clearly explained. Focus on the changes shown rather than giving directions or unsupported claims.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is some chronological organisation: the response begins with 2007 and then moves to 2010, which gives the reader a basic sense of comparison. However, the information is presented as one long, largely unpunctuated sequence, so relationships between features are difficult to follow. Repeated links such as “and,” “if you enter,” and “if you go” create a directions-style account rather than a clear map summary. Some references, including “this hospital” and “this parking,” are not always easy to connect to the intended feature. Use separate paragraphs for each year, group related changes together, and use clear comparisons such as “whereas” and “by 2010” to improve progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “Ring Road,” “Hospital Road,” “staff parking,” “public car parking,” and “bus station,” so the reader can recognise several map features. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and some word choices are inaccurate or unclear, such as “take a average place,” “huge space,” and “round turn.” Spelling errors in “entren[ce],” “availiabe,” and “reached” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise map vocabulary and natural collocations: for example, describe a facility as being “located to the east of” a road, and say that bus stops were “replaced by” a bus station. Avoid repeating “huge” and “see”.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to describe locations and changes using longer sentences, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “the city hospital take a a average place,” “this hospital is take a huge space,” and “you will reached,” where verb forms and sentence structure are faulty. Articles and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “the main entrance of hospital” and “this parking is only for staff.” Capitalisation and punctuation are largely absent, causing several ideas to run together. Practise writing short, complete sentences first, using accurate past-tense forms for 2007 and 2010 descriptions, then combine them with controlled clauses and clear punctuation.
