Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main changes between the maps: the bus stops are replaced by a bus station, two roundabouts are added, and the shared car park becomes separate staff and public facilities. You also note the new public car park beside Ring Road, so the response covers several important features. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: in 2007 the car park was east of Hospital Road, not simply “around this road,” and City Road was south of the hospital complex, rather than on its east side. The overview is present but its wording makes the changes difficult to follow, and the account of the bus station’s access and the roundabouts could be more precise. Clearer comparisons would make the key developments more fully reported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an opening overview is followed by a description of the earlier layout and then the 2010 changes. This gives the reader a general sense of the timeline. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven, and the final paragraph combines several changes in one long sentence, making the relationships between them hard to follow. Linking expressions such as “Meanwhile” do not clearly signal the comparison being made, while repeated “also” adds little cohesion. Improve this by grouping related features—for example, road changes, transport facilities, and parking—and using clear comparisons such as “By 2010” or “In contrast.” More precise referencing would also help readers track which road or car park is being discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “ring road,” “bus station,” “car park,” “junction,” and “development,” which allows the main subject to be understood. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce clarity, including “roundahout,” “cark park,” “evient,” and “seprately.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “city hospital structure” and “bus stop changed into bus station.” Aim for accurate map-description collocations, for example, “the bus stops were replaced by a bus station” and “a public car park was added.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating general words such as “also” when a more precise verb can express the change.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including “Overall, …” and the time contrast introduced by “Meanwhile.” However, sentence control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between features difficult to understand. Examples include “a significant changes were occured,” where the article, agreement, and verb form are faulty, and “there were two roundahout which link,” where the plural noun and verb form do not agree. The final sentence also lacks clear punctuation and a complete, well-organised structure. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions of completed changes, and check articles, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries. Shorter sentences would help you express each map feature clearly while you build control of complex structures.
