Student answer (Band 6.0)
The map ilustrate the changes made to a road access system around a city hospital between 2007 and 2010.
Overall, the area became more organized and accessible by 2010.Two rounabouts were constructed ,bus stops were replaced with bus station . In addition, car park was replaced by staff car park and new public park was developed.
In 2007,the hospital was surrounded by ring road, which was connected to hospital road running from south to north. There were six bus stops, three on each side alomg the hospital road. In addition, single car parking serving for both staff and public was located to the east of hospital, between hospital road and city road.
By 2010, significant changes were made. The bus stops along the hospital were removed and replaced by bus station on western side of the road. The bus station was linked to new access road. Furthermore, two roundabouts were constructed , one at junction of hospital road and city road and another were hospital road met ring road.
The parking arrangements were also altered. The combined car park was replaced by new individual one for staff and new car parking was developed along the east side of city hospital, connected directly to ring road.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main changes and provide a clear overview: the bus stops disappear, a bus station is added, roundabouts are built, and parking is reorganised. Most locations are reported accurately, including the staff car park east of Hospital Road and the new public car park with access from Ring Road. Some details are less fully or precisely described. For example, the 2007 car park is said to be “between hospital road and city road,” which does not clearly convey that it was east of Hospital Road, and the 2010 public car park is placed “along the east side of city hospital” rather than on the east side of Ring Road. Also clarify that the bus station has access connections at both ends of Hospital Road. More exact spatial descriptions would make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by a description of the earlier layout and then the changes by 2010. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish the road and bus changes from the parking changes, and transitions such as “By 2010” and “Furthermore” support progression. This already gives the account a clear sequence. However, some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “In addition” and “Furthermore,” and the overview’s list of changes is compressed into a run-on sequence. A few references are also imprecise, such as “the road” when several roads are being discussed. Varying transitions and making each sentence’s spatial reference explicit would make cohesion more flexible and precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of map-related vocabulary, including “surrounded,” “junction,” “access road,” “replaced,” and “parking arrangements.” These choices help communicate the main developments, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice inaccuracies: “ilustrate,” “rounabouts,” and “alomg” are misspelled, while “public park” appears to mean “public car park.” The phrase “new individual one for staff” is also vague and unnatural for describing the designated staff car park. Aim for precise map terminology and check spelling carefully; using “designated as a staff car park” and “public car park” would make the changes clearer. More accurate collocations would strengthen the description without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including relative clauses (“which was connected to hospital road”) and time contrasts (“By 2010, significant changes were made”). The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors recur. For example, “The map ilustrate” has subject–verb agreement trouble, and “one at junction … and another were hospital road met ring road” has an incorrect clause structure and verb form. Articles are often missing in phrases such as “to hospital” and “at junction,” while spacing after full stops and commas is inconsistent. These errors do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, and proofread punctuation while retaining the complex structures you attempt.
