Student answer (Band 6.0)
The two maps describes the layout of roads to access to a city hospital and also illustrate different facilities on hospital road like staff and public car parking, bus station and roundabout in 2007 and 2010.
overall, the noticeable changes that should consider in 2007 there had no roundabout to meet city road and hospital road but in 2010 construction of two roundabouts to link hospital road to city road. In addition, in 2007 both car parking of staff and public were together while in 2010 that were separated.
In detail, in 2007 car parking of both staff and public were together but later on in 2010 public parking were move to northeast side while staff parking were present at its pervious place in southeast direction. Moreover, in 2010 construct two new roundabouts the main purpose of first roundabout was to link hospital road with city main road and second one to give intersection of hospital road with main entrance and also meet with ring road. In addition, in 2007 bus stations are along the hospital road but in 2010 bus station had given specific place in southwest direction and that bus station were gave access to both newly constructed roundabouts and the thing that remain same in both map was ring road.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main changes and provide an overview, especially the addition of two roundabouts and the separation of staff and public parking. You also compare the bus arrangements and note that the Ring Road remains. These points address the task, but some details are unclear or inaccurate: the public car park is on the east side of the Ring Road, rather than simply “northeast,” and the roundabouts connect Hospital Road with the Ring Road and City Road respectively; they do not both serve the connections described in your account. The bus stops are replaced by a bus station west of Hospital Road. More precise descriptions of these locations and connections, with each change clearly distinguished, would make the account more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and a detail paragraph. Its main comparisons are generally grouped sensibly, and linking expressions such as “In addition” and “Moreover” help signal relationships between points. However, the progression within the final paragraph is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly when the roundabouts and their purposes are described in one long sentence. Repeated use of “In addition” and “but” also makes cohesion somewhat mechanical, while references such as “that bus station” and “the thing that remain same” are not fully clear. Use shorter sentences for separate map features and organise the details by location or by change to improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “layout,” “roundabouts,” “intersection,” “access,” and “Ring Road,” so the reader can identify the main features. There are also attempts at more specific directional language, such as “southwest direction.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “car parking,” “were move,” “specific place,” and “the thing that remain same.” “Bus stations” is also used for the individual bus stops shown in 2007. These choices sometimes make the description less precise. Build a reliable set of map-change phrases, such as “was relocated,” “was converted into,” and “remained unchanged,” and check word forms and collocations before using them.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “but,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors occur frequently in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, and articles. For example, “The two maps describes” has subject–verb disagreement, while “public parking were move” combines incorrect agreement with an incorrect verb form. The overview phrase “changes that should consider” is also structurally incomplete, and the long sentence beginning “Moreover, in 2010 construct two new roundabouts” lacks a clear subject and has faulty clause connections. Practise accurate past-tense passive forms such as “was moved” and “were added,” and divide complex descriptions into complete, controlled sentences.
