Student answer (Band 6.0)
These maps illustrate the road access to city hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Overall, there were major changes in 2010 , bus stops were replced by a bus station, roundabouts were added for better traffic control. Major changes in infrastructure and road were made for smooth traffic experience.
In 2010, bus stops were removed while a bus staion was added on the west side of the hospital road. In 2007 , there was a singular car parking available for both staff and public, but in 2010 that placed were desiginated only for staff car park and public car park was shifted to east side of the city hospital.
The major change in infrastructure was adding roundabout , first roundabout was added between city road and hospital road, and second roundabout was made that connected hospital road to ring road. Both of these roundabout had direct link with the bus station.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response identifies the main developments: the bus stops were replaced by a bus station, the existing car park became staff-only, a public car park was added, and two roundabouts appeared. The overview also recognises that the access system changed substantially, and most locations are reported accurately. This meets the task well, with some features described in useful detail. However, the claim that the public car park was “shifted” is not quite accurate: it was newly provided east of Ring Road, rather than simply relocated from its former position. The statement that both roundabouts had a direct link with the bus station is also imprecise; the station connects to the northern roundabout and to the southern end of Hospital Road. More precise descriptions of these relationships would strengthen the account.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a brief overview, and two paragraphs describing the transport and parking changes. Information generally progresses from the bus facilities and car parks to the new roundabouts, so the reader can follow the comparison. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “In 2010,” and “but” help signal the organisation. However, the final paragraph repeats the general idea of major infrastructure changes, and the relationship between the bus station and the two roundabouts is not expressed clearly. Some punctuation spacing and comma use also interrupt the flow. Grouping the changes more consistently by feature and using clearer references to each road junction would make the cohesion less mechanical and the progression more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant vocabulary for describing maps, including “bus station,” “roundabouts,” “designated,” and “direct link,” and the main changes remain understandable. There is some attempt to vary wording, for example “major changes in infrastructure” and “road access.” However, several spelling errors—“replced,” “staion,” and “desiginated”—are noticeable, and some choices are imprecise or unnatural. “Singular car parking” is not a natural way to describe one shared car park, while “shifted” suggests relocation rather than the addition of a new public car park. “Smooth traffic experience” is also an awkward collocation and introduces an unsupported purpose. More accurate map-description vocabulary and careful proofreading would improve precision and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and more developed sentences, such as “In 2007, there was a singular car parking available for both staff and public, but in 2010…” This shows an attempt to compare the two maps within a complex sentence. The main meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “that placed were designated” has faulty agreement and an unclear reference, and “Both of these roundabout had” needs a plural noun and verb. Articles and sentence punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “adding roundabout” and the comma splice in “Overall, there were major changes in 2010, bus stops…”. Use complete, accurately punctuated sentences and check agreement, articles, and plural forms.
