Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two years and attempt an overview, noting changes to the road entrances, bus facilities and car parks. However, the account is only partial and several details are inaccurate or unclear: the bus stops were removed and replaced by a bus station west of Hospital Road, rather than a bus stop being “shifted”; the car parks were not both relocated adjacent to the hospital, as the existing east-side car park became staff-only and a public car park was added east of Ring Road. The description also ends mid-sentence, so important changes are not fully reported. The response is 128 words, below the required 150. To improve, give a complete overview and accurately describe the main changes and locations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and overview before moving to details. Phrases such as “Overall” and “Commencing from south side” signal the intended progression. However, the sequence is difficult to follow because several changes are combined in long, loosely connected sentences, and the final sentence is incomplete. The reference to “it” in “it relocated by a bus station” is also unclear, making it hard to identify what changed. Paragraphing and linking are limited, so the reader cannot easily distinguish the road changes from the bus and parking changes. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key details, and group related features in a clear order.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “entrances,” “round abouts,” “bus station,” and “car parks,” showing an attempt to describe changes in access and facilities. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “pathways heading towards,” “converted to couple of round abouts,” and “car parking shifted.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “adjecent,” “thh,” and “hosiptal,” which reduce precision. Aim for accurate, conventional map language and check spelling carefully. Terms such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” “was added,” and “to the east of” would help you report the changes more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a clause beginning “which was surrounded by trees.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors can make relationships between features difficult to understand. For example, “the city road was connecting the hospital and other roads was reconstructed” has an unclear subject and verb structure, while “which previously build at away from the hospital” lacks a correctly formed verb and complete construction. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “a couple of round abouts.” The final sentence is incomplete. Practise forming clear past-tense sentences with one main clause at a time, then add subordinate clauses once the basic structure is accurate.
