Student answer (Band 6.0)
The maps illustrate the road access to a city hospital in 2010 and how it look after redevelopment in 2027.
Overall, it is clear that the road access to a city hospital was changed significantly. Location of the car parking for public was changed. Bus station was moved to western side, while tow new roundabout were added to access the ring road and bus station.
Looking first at eastern side of the layout, new car parking facilities was added for the public on the north side of the ring road, while previous parking was allocated for staff only. Bus station was relocated on the west side of the layout.
Turning to other changes, two new roundabout were added. One on the center of the layout which provide access to ring road and bus stop, while other was added on the south side of the layout which provide access to city road , bus station and hospital road.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main transformation: the shared car park became staff-only, a separate public car park was introduced, bus stops were replaced by a bus station, and two roundabouts were added. These are relevant features, and the overview gives the reader a broad sense of redevelopment. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate. The public car park is on the east side of the Ring Road, not explicitly on its north side, and the bus station is west of Hospital Road rather than simply relocated to the west side of the whole layout. The description of the roundabouts also misstates their connections: they are at the Ring Road and City Road junctions, not described as providing access to a bus stop. More precise comparisons and a clearer account of the 2007 arrangement would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. Phrases such as “Looking first” and “Turning to other changes” help signal progression, and the reader can follow the broad sequence of information. However, the grouping is not always logical: the bus station is mentioned in the paragraph about eastern-side changes, then the roundabouts are described without clearly explaining how they connect the roads. Some references are also vague, including “other changes,” “the center of the layout,” and “other,” so the reader must infer which features are meant. Organise the details by comparing the 2007 and 2010 layouts, and use clearer links and references to make the progression less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of map-related vocabulary, including “road access,” “redevelopment,” “allocated,” “relocated,” and “roundabout.” These terms generally communicate the changes, and the wording is varied enough to avoid relying entirely on basic verbs. Some choices and collocations are imprecise, however: “car parking facilities was added” is not a natural way to describe the new public car park, and “bus station was moved” could be expressed more precisely as “a bus station was built.” “Tow” is a spelling error for “two,” while “on the center” is an awkward location phrase. Aim for accurate, conventional map-description language and check spelling and word forms so that the vocabulary is more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the overview clause beginning “while” and the sentence starting “Looking first at eastern side.” The main meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “how it look” has incorrect tense and agreement, “parking facilities was added” has subject–verb disagreement, and “two new roundabout were added” needs a plural noun and matching verb. Articles are also missing in “at eastern side” and “on the center,” while the relative clauses “which provide” need a past-tense verb to match the account. Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly the space before the comma in “city road ,”. Check agreement, articles, tense consistency, and sentence punctuation while retaining your attempts at varied structures.
