Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main changes between the maps: the bus stops are replaced by a bus station, roundabouts are added, and parking is reorganised. Your overview also recognises that the public parking location changes, which helps address the task rather than simply listing map labels. Some details, however, are unclear or inaccurate. In 2007, the shared car park is east of Hospital Road and its entrance connects to that road; it is not described as having a gateway from Ring Road. In 2010, the bus station is west of Hospital Road, and the new public car park is east of Ring Road. Explain these relationships more precisely, and develop the comparison of the two roundabouts—at the Ring Road and City Road junctions—to make the key features clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an overall sequence from an introduction and overview to the 2007 and 2010 layouts, so the reader can follow the broad comparison. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to track because several features are joined in long, loosely punctuated sentences. For example, the 2010 sentence moves from roundabouts to the bus station and then to both car parks without clear separation. Linking phrases such as “By contrast” and “In addition” could make the comparisons more explicit, while full stops would help distinguish separate map features. Use clearer paragraphing for the overview and each year, and make references such as “it” or “same place” explicit so the reader knows which road or car park is meant.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “bus station,” “car parking,” and “east side,” and you attempt to describe changes rather than merely copy labels. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the description harder to understand: “developement,” “hostiptal,” “constracted,” and “hemispehire” are examples. Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “visual image of development” and “within the hospital structure.” Prefer direct map language such as “the maps illustrate changes to road access” and “the hospital area.” Check spelling carefully and use precise location phrases—“to the east of Hospital Road,” for instance—rather than broad or confusing expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the response generally communicates the broad changes. However, control of sentence structure, articles, verb forms, and punctuation is inconsistent. The opening lacks a clear grammatical construction, while “a roundabout has been constructed within the pathway of city and hospital road” has an unclear relationship between the roads. Several clauses are run together with commas, particularly in the final paragraph, making it difficult to see where one idea ends. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then combine ideas using accurate clauses. For example: “In 2010, roundabouts were added where Hospital Road meets Ring Road and City Road.” Check articles and prepositions when describing locations.
