Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two years and mention several relevant changes, including the addition of a bus station and separate staff and public car parks. However, the account only partially reports the maps, and the overview is unclear: the claim that the bus stop moves “under the ring road” does not match the maps, which show individual stops replaced by a bus station west of Hospital Road. Some details are also inaccurate or unsupported, such as the trees and a roundabout east of the hospital; the roundabouts are on Hospital Road at its junctions with Ring Road and City Road. To improve, give a clear overview of the main changes, then describe the locations and connections accurately, including the new public car park east of Ring Road.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic chronological structure, with separate paragraphs for 2007 and 2010, and time markers such as “In 2007” and “In 2010” help the reader follow the comparison. However, the opening overview is difficult to interpret, and the sequence within the descriptions is not always clear. For example, “after entering the city road” does not clearly explain how Hospital Road connects to City Road, while the 2010 paragraph moves between the car park, roundabout, trees and bus station without a consistent spatial order. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “and.” Organise each year’s features by location and use clear contrasts such as “whereas” or “by contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “east side,” “staff car park,” “public car park” and “bus station,” so the reader can identify several features. However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations make the description unclear. “Street permission” is not an appropriate way to describe road access, and “the previous year” is confusing when comparing two maps rather than describing a sequence from a single reference point. The phrase “under the ring road” also gives an inaccurate impression of the bus facilities’ position. Aim for precise terms such as “road access,” “junction,” “located to the west of,” and “was replaced by.” Check spacing and spelling in compounds such as “public car park.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, and the year-based openings provide a basic framework. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features difficult to understand. Examples include “The two locations under shows,” “there a bus stop,” and “Now they removes,” which show problems with subject–verb agreement and verb forms. Articles and sentence construction are also unreliable in “on the same location as 2007” and “there are many things that are changes.” Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, including “Overall,In” and missing spaces after commas. Practise accurate present-tense descriptions of maps and past-tense comparisons, and build longer sentences only when the grammatical links are clear.
