Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two years and report several relevant changes, including the addition of roundabouts, a bus station and a public car park. However, the comparison is only partly accurate and developed. In 2007, Hospital Road connected City Road to the Ring Road; it was not a direct route from City Road to the hospital, as your description suggests. The 2010 roundabouts are at the intersections of Hospital Road with the Ring Road and City Road, rather than one being described as starting from the hospital road and the other leading to the hospital. You also miss key changes: the bus stops were replaced by a bus station, and the existing car park became staff-only. Give a clear overview of these main changes and describe locations precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a basic chronological order, moving from the 2007 map to the 2010 map, and phrases such as “while” and “In Short” attempt to connect the comparison. However, the ideas are crowded into one long paragraph, with little clear progression between the route description and the changes to parking and bus facilities. Several links are difficult to follow, particularly “two of the roundabout one start from the hospital road and other one lead to hospital.” Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the details, and organise each year’s features in a clear sequence. More precise linking and reference would help readers understand which road or facility each statement refers to.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “ring road,” “bus station,” “public car park” and “roundabout,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “access pathways,” “routes and map more complicated” and “simplest route.” Repetition of “road,” “map” and “hospital” also makes the description less precise. Aim to use standard map-description language and distinguish clearly between facilities and routes—for example, describe a road as connecting two points, and a car park as being located beside a road. More accurate collocations would make your comparisons easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses, for example, “while in the map of 2010,” but complex sentences are often difficult to follow, and many basic errors remain. Examples include “one is shorter one than other one,” “one start” and “other one lead,” where articles, agreement and sentence structure are not controlled. Tense and verb patterns are also inconsistent in “the first map elaborate” and “you have to pass through ring road to reached.” Punctuation is weak: the response runs several ideas together without clear sentence boundaries. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking verb forms, articles and punctuation.
