Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main transformation and provide an overview: the hospital remains unchanged while the surrounding access and facilities are redesigned. You also report several key changes, including the bus station, the two roundabouts and the separation of staff and public parking. This covers the task well, with some of the detail needed for a fuller account. However, the location of the new public car park is misreported: it is east of the Ring Road, not east of Hospital Road. The bus stops were removed and replaced by a bus station, rather than a bus stop being replaced by a roundabout. Clarifying these distinctions and describing the bus station’s access more precisely would make the account more complete and accurate.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an overview to a description of the original layout and then the changes by 2010. Time markers such as “Initially” and “By the end of the period” help orient the reader. However, several ideas are crowded into long sentences, and the sequence of changes is not always easy to follow. For example, the sentence beginning “when the area was redesigned” combines the car parks, bus facilities and roundabouts without clear separation. Linking words such as “furthermore” are used, but punctuation and unclear references sometimes weaken the connections. Use separate sentences or paragraphs for road changes and facility changes, and make each comparison explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing maps, including “relocated,” “expanded,” “adjacent,” and “constructed,” and the reader can generally understand the changes you intend to describe. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, such as “development of road,” “bus top,” and “the area looked more modern.” Spelling errors, including “signifcant,” “redisgned,” and “orignal,” also reduce control. Some terms are repeated, particularly “area” and “connected.” Aim for precise map language and check spelling carefully; for example, distinguish a bus station from individual bus stops and describe the public car park’s position relative to the Ring Road.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas” and a sequence introduced by “when.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and prepositions sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. For example, “two new roundabout was constructed” has a plural subject but a singular noun and verb, while “other was connected city road” lacks an article and a necessary preposition. The overview sentence also joins clauses with unclear punctuation. Use shorter, complete sentences when describing several changes, and check subject–verb agreement, articles and prepositions. More accurate control of these patterns would make your range easier to understand.
