Student answer (Band 6.0)
The maps illustrate the road connectivity to a city hospital in year 2007 and 2010.
Overall, it is evident that the huge development was underwent in this area between the two years and various facilites were added such as bus station and separate car parking space.
In 2007, the city hospital was situated on the left side of the city road in north direction. Also, the hospital road was used to connect it to the city road with a car park area on the right side towards the east. Furthermore, the city hospital was covered by ring road which was further connected to the public car park area in 2010.
Moreover, a new rounabout was constructed on the intractions of city road towards the city hospital in 2010. Additionally, car park area on right side of city road was converted into the staff car park area. However, the bus station was established on the opposite side in the north-west direction.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall change: the area was redeveloped, with a bus station and separate parking provision introduced. You also correctly note that the former shared car park became staff-only and that a bus station was added to the west of Hospital Road. However, some important details are unclear or inaccurate. The 2010 roundabouts were at both the Ring Road and City Road junctions, but you mention only the one at City Road. The public car park was newly built east of Ring Road, rather than simply being an existing area connected to it. The overview would be stronger if it also stated that the individual bus stops were removed and replaced by a bus station.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an overview to details about the two maps, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “Additionally” help signal relationships. The main points are generally grouped in a sensible order. However, progression is not always clear: the sentence about the Ring Road being “further connected to the public car park area in 2010” interrupts the description of the 2007 layout and makes the comparison difficult to follow. Some references, including “it” and “this area,” are also broad. Organise the body by comparing each feature across the years, and use clearer references such as “the former shared car park” or “the northern junction.”
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for describing map changes, including “connectivity,” “converted,” “constructed,” and “established.” These choices communicate the general development, and the reader can understand most of the account. Some word choices and collocations are imprecise, however: “huge development was underwent” is not a natural way to describe the changes, and “car parking space” is less precise than “car parks.” There are also spelling errors in “facilites,” “rounabout,” and “intractions.” Aim for accurate, conventional map language such as “was redeveloped,” “was replaced by,” and “at the junction of,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including the overview clause beginning “Overall” and sentences linked with “Furthermore” and “However.” Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “the huge development was underwent” combines an incorrect passive form with an unsuitable verb construction; use “the area underwent major development” or “major changes were made.” In “the city hospital was situated on the left side of the city road in north direction,” the article and preposition pattern is faulty. The phrase “on the intractions of city road” also needs a grammatical construction such as “at the junction with City Road.” More accurate sentence patterns would improve control.
