Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify several relevant changes, including the six bus stops in 2007, their replacement by a bus station, and the addition of a public car park. However, the response reports the map only minimally: it does not clearly summarise the overall transformation, and some locations are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the public car park is east of the Ring Road, not simply “in the right of the city hospital,” and the 2010 roundabouts are at the Ring Road and City Road junctions with Hospital Road. The response is also 39 words below the required minimum, leaving important comparisons and details undeveloped. To improve, give a clear overview and explain the main changes in access and parking.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic chronological structure: you describe 2007 first and then introduce 2010 with “while.” This helps the reader recognise that you are comparing two maps. However, the response is presented as one continuous passage, and the long 2010 sentence combines several locations without clear separation. Phrases such as “following the staff car park” make the order and relationship between features difficult to follow. Organise the response into a short introduction, an overview, and separate detail paragraphs for each year or for the main changes. Use clear linking expressions such as “By contrast” and “In addition,” and make sure each sentence focuses on one or two related features.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “bus stops,” “ring road,” “public car park,” “staff car park,” and “round about,” so the reader can identify many of the features being described. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repetitive, such as “in the right of” and “on the downside.” These choices make spatial relationships harder to understand. Spelling is also inconsistent, as in “arrounf.” Aim to use accurate directional language and a wider range of verbs for map changes, such as “was replaced by,” “was added,” and “was located to the east of.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to connect ideas using clauses, for example “while in 2010,” but sentence structures are limited and errors occur frequently. In “the city hospital have 6 bus stops,” the verb does not agree with the singular subject, and the past-time description needs a past-tense verb. The long sentence beginning “the difference at we have” has an incomplete or faulty clause structure, making the comparison difficult to interpret. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or incorrectly used, as in “in the hospital road.” Use short, complete sentences first, with consistent past-tense forms, then add controlled comparisons such as “In 2010, the bus stops were replaced by a bus station.”
