Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main change that the hospital itself remained in the same location and note that parking and bus facilities changed. However, the account is only partly accurate and some key features are unclear. In 2010, the public car park was added east of the Ring Road; it was not the original car park shifted from beside Hospital Road. The existing car park became staff-only, and the bus stops were replaced by a bus station west of Hospital Road. Your description of the roundabouts and access routes is also confusing: there are two, at the Ring Road and City Road junctions. A clearer overview and more precise comparisons of these changes would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic chronological structure, moving from a short introduction and overview to separate descriptions of 2007 and 2010. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow, particularly in the final paragraph, where the public car park, roundabout, bus station and staff car park are linked in a confusing sequence. Connectors such as “But,” “Also,” and “From” are used repeatedly or do not clearly show the relationship between locations. Grouping the changes by feature—for example, road layout, parking and bus facilities—and using clear location references would improve the flow and make comparisons easier to understand.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “Ring road,” “Hospital road,” “car park,” and “roundabout,” so the reader can identify the main features being discussed. However, the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or awkward, such as “Ring road followed by City hospital was in the middle” and “the way to roundabout was added.” These expressions make spatial relationships difficult to interpret. There are also spelling and form errors in labels, including “Hopital,” and inconsistent capitalisation of road names. Use precise location language and map-reporting verbs, such as “runs around,” “is situated east of,” “was converted into,” and “was replaced by,” to describe the changes more accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with limited control of more complex sentence patterns. Errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships unclear. For example, “The two maps illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “many changes taken place” is missing an auxiliary verb. In “Bus station and new roundabout was added,” the plural subject requires a plural verb, and articles are also missing. Sentence boundaries and spacing are inconsistent, as in “2010.There” and “years.But.” There are attempts to connect ideas with “But” and “From,” but the resulting structures are often incomplete or awkward. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and sentences that compare locations and changes.
