Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two years and mention several relevant changes, including the new public car park and bus station, but the response reports the map only minimally and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the 2007 ring road is described as being on the hospital’s “north side,” although it surrounds the hospital on its north, west and east sides; the 2010 bus station is placed on the “west east side,” which does not convey its location clearly. The overview is also replaced by an unsupported judgement that the hospital is now in a “good environment.” The response is 141 words, below the required 150, so it has limited space to describe the key changes. Include a clear overview and accurately compare the bus stops, car parks and road layout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: it introduces the maps, describes 2007, then discusses 2010 and ends with a concluding comment. This gives the reader some sense of the time sequence. However, progression within paragraphs is weak, and several links are repetitive or awkward, such as “in additionally” and “after analysing the map.” The final paragraph repeats the idea of a new parking area rather than summarising the main changes. Some references are also unclear, particularly “this places was arounded by city hospital.” Organise the comparison around the main features, using clear links such as “By 2010” and “In contrast,” and ensure each sentence connects logically to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “ring road,” “car park,” “bus station” and “Hospital Rd,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the description difficult to interpret. “Bus station west east side” is unclear, while “good environment” is vague and not an appropriate way to summarise changes to road access. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Morever,” “seperately” and “seperate.” Aim for precise map language and accurate spelling; for example, describe a feature as being “to the west of Hospital Road” and use “designated” or “converted” when explaining the car-park changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences use simple structures, and the basic time contrast between 2007 and 2010 is partly conveyed. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes obscure the relationships between features. The opening, “The given maps shows us,” has subject–verb disagreement, and “the city hospital ring road in north side” lacks a clear sentence structure and necessary articles. In “this places was arounded by city hospital,” the demonstrative and verb do not agree, and the intended meaning is difficult to follow. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “in additionally new public car parking provided seperately in east side.” Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles and punctuation.
