Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given maps depict layouts of the city hospital in 2007 and after three year it was modified with few changes.

Overall, it can be seen that the shape of the hospital road was straight. In contrast, after few years the hospital road was fully developed with two roundabout, bus station, and new parking for staff as well as public.

In 2007, city hospital was located at Northern direction, which was fully covered with the ring road. However, hospital road was stay connected with city road. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main transformation: the bus stops were replaced by a bus station, two roundabouts were added, and parking was reorganised. The overview also recognises the development between the two years, and most locations are reported accurately. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the 2010 public car park is on the east side of the Ring Road, not simply “beside the city hospital,” and the staff car park remains east of Hospital Road rather than being “in front of” the bus station. The statement that the hospital road was “fully developed” is also broad and does not specify the key changes. More precise comparisons and clearer descriptions of the car parks would make the account more complete and better developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for 2007 and 2010. This makes the chronological comparison easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “In addition,” “Furthermore,” and “Lastly” help signal new details. Some connections are nevertheless mechanical or awkward, particularly “However” where no clear contrast is established and “While” at the start of the 2010 sentence. The sequence of details in the final paragraph could also be more logically grouped—for example, describe the road changes and bus facilities together, then compare the two car parks. Clearer referencing would help too: “other parking lot” does not immediately identify which car park is meant.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of map vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “bus station,” “car park,” and “connected,” so the main features are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “fully covered” and “modified,” but several choices are imprecise or unnatural for describing a plan. “The shape of the hospital road was straight” does not convey the main changes, while “common car park” and “other parking lot” are unclear labels. Phrases such as “noticed” and “Infront off” are also unsuitable or incorrectly formed. Aim for precise location and change vocabulary, such as “located,” “replaced,” “designated,” and “accessed directly from,” while avoiding repeated general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast structure beginning “While” and clauses with “which,” but control is uneven. Errors in verb forms and agreement appear in phrases such as “after three year it was modified,” “hospital road was stay connected,” and “two roundabout noticed.” Articles, plurals, and prepositions also need attention: “at Northern direction,” “the Southeast direction,” and “Infront off the bus station” are not grammatically well formed. These errors sometimes make relationships between features less clear, although the reader can usually understand the intended meaning. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural endings when revising.
