Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the replacement of the bus stops by a bus station, the separation of staff and public parking, and the addition of roundabouts. However, the overview is vague and partly inaccurate: the road network did not simply “significantly grow,” and the maps show two roundabouts on Hospital Road, not two near the hospital entrance. Some details are also unclear, such as “Size of the hospital road was also reduced,” which is not established by the maps. The response is 145 words, below the required 150. To strengthen the report, describe the main changes precisely and include the new public car park east of Ring Road and the bus station’s access connections.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing changes by location. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview repeats general claims about development, while the final paragraph moves between west, east, south, and north without clearly grouping related changes. Linking words such as “Whereas” do not establish a complete contrast in the final sentence, and several ideas run together because punctuation and spacing are missing, as in “developed.Public.” Use a clearer sequence—for example, first summarise the overall transformation, then compare the road and transport arrangements, followed by the parking changes—and use references such as “the former shared car park” consistently.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “bus station,” “roundabout,” “Ring road,” and “parking area,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are vague or repetitive, particularly “developed,” “made,” and “changes.” Some word choices do not accurately describe the map: “city road” is not the feature that grew, and “Size of the hospital road was also reduced” is an imprecise description. Spelling errors such as “snd,” “seperate,” and “remaind” also weaken control. Aim for precise verbs and location phrases, such as “was converted into,” “was added,” and “to the east of Ring Road,” rather than repeating general terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few different sentence patterns, including a contrast with “Whereas” and a time comparison beginning “Previously,” but most sentences rely on simple structures, and errors are frequent. For example, “The two maps illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “Two different roundabout … was” has both a plural and agreement problem. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent: “Public car parking was also made for the public.Changes…” needs a space and clearer punctuation. The phrase “In west region” also lacks an article. Practise accurate plural subjects and verbs, and build controlled comparison sentences such as “In 2007, the shared car park was east of Hospital Road, whereas by 2010 it had been divided into staff and public parking.”
