The two maps below show road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The following maps depicts about a road direction of a urban medical faculty from 2007 to 2010.

overall in 2007, from city road we will move straight and then turn right. After reaching the hospital road, we can see a car parking lot and a stuff park for public. Both side of the road, there is a bus stop. Walking through the medical road, at the front we can find the entrance of the city hospital where the ring road is circling it.

On the contrary, the road map changed in 2010. Starting from the city road, there is a roundabout which connects through four different road. We can choose the hospital rd or the bus stop. Both the place connect with a roundabout. After walking by the second roundabout, we can see the car parking area and staff park. Thus we can go to the hospital from the two spot.

The major changes happened in the city hospital is the roundabout. As, It is noticeable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad change from the 2007 layout to the 2010 layout, especially the introduction of roundabouts and the removal of individual bus stops. However, the account is only partially accurate and the main features are not clearly summarised. In 2007, the shared staff-and-public car park is east of Hospital Road, but the description “a car parking lot and a stuff park for public” misrepresents it as two facilities. In 2010, the bus stops are replaced by a bus station west of Hospital Road, not a “bus stop”; the new public car park is east of Ring Road, while the existing car park becomes staff-only. The overview focuses narrowly on roundabouts and does not clearly capture these key changes. Report the map features directly rather than giving route instructions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: it describes 2007, then 2010, and ends with a brief statement about the main change. This gives the reader some sense of sequence. However, progression within the paragraphs is not consistently clear because the account is framed as directions (“Starting from the city road”) rather than as a comparison of the two maps. Connectors such as “On the contrary” and “Thus” do not clearly express the relationships between the features, and “Both the place” leaves the reference uncertain. The final sentence repeats the focus on roundabouts without adding a useful summary. Organise the response around the overall changes, then compare the road access, bus facilities and car parks using clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabout,” “entrance,” “connects” and “car parking area,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward, which makes some details difficult to understand. “Medical faculty” does not describe the city hospital, “stuff park” is not an appropriate term, and “bus stop” is used where the 2010 map shows a bus station. Phrases such as “Both the place” and “from the two spot” are also imprecise. Use standard map terms consistently and choose vocabulary that distinguishes facilities and locations, such as “staff car park,” “public car park” and “bus station.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, including “Starting from the city road, there is a roundabout which connects through four different road.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make the relationships between features unclear. The opening has subject–verb and article problems (“maps depicts,” “a urban”), while “Both side of the road, there is a bus stop” has agreement and number errors. Other examples include “Both the place connect” and “from the two spot,” where plural subjects do not agree with their verbs or nouns. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “As, It is noticeable.” Practise accurate plural forms, subject–verb agreement, articles and complete sentence patterns before adding more complex clauses.
