Student answer (Band 6.0)
The maps given compares the difference in road access to a city hospital in two different years - 2007 and 2010.
Overall, there are significant infrastructural development along the hospital road. There are no considerable changes around the city hospital, but new bus station and roundabouts feature in the later map.
In 2007, Map depicts that city hospital was sorrounded by the ring road. There was a car parking for both publuic and staf connected with ring road from south east side of hospital. The car parking had borders with ring road from north side, West side had boundry with hospital raod and south side with city road. City road had junction with hospital road at south west side of car parking. Whereas hospital road connects with ring road from north side featuring bus stops along edges with three on parking side and three in opposite diection crossing junction with city road.
Moving on to the map of 2010 which features to new roundabouts. One at junction of hospital road with ring road and second with city road. Both these junctions have road connected to the new bus station on the west side of hospital road. Parking space also had redevelopment with new space for public car park on the east edge of ring road. Older car parking reamined for staff car parking.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main changes between the maps: the bus stops are replaced by a bus station, two roundabouts are added, and the shared car park becomes staff-only while a public car park is introduced. Your overview also recognises that the later map shows substantial road development. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear. In 2007, the car park is east of Hospital Road and connects to that road; it is not described as connected to Ring Road, nor does it border Ring Road on its north side. The 2010 public car park is on the east side of Ring Road, a useful detail you include, but the bus station’s access routes could be explained more precisely. More accurate descriptions of these relationships would make the account more complete and clear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for 2007 and 2010. This makes the chronological comparison easy to follow, and phrases such as “Moving on to the map of 2010” signal the shift effectively. The main progression is logical, but some sentences contain several spatial details without clear links, particularly the long 2007 description beginning “The car parking had borders…”. The use of “Whereas” there also leaves the relationship between the ideas awkward. To strengthen the flow, group related features and use more precise referencing—for example, distinguish the car park’s position from the roads and junctions around it. This would retain the effective paragraphing while making connections less effortful for the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabouts,” “junction,” “bus station,” and “public car park,” and you attempt more formal terms such as “infrastructural development” and “redevelopment.” However, several word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision: “car parking” is less suitable than “car park” for the facility, “borders with” is awkward for describing location, and “crossing junction” does not clearly express the bus stops’ position. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “sorrounded,” “publuic,” “boundry,” and “reamined.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main changes, but they weaken accuracy and fluency. Prefer standard map-description collocations and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the overview contrast “There are no considerable changes…, but…” and the sentence describing the two roundabouts. The main information is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening should be “The maps given compare,” since the plural subject requires a plural verb. In “There are significant infrastructural development,” the noun phrase needs plural agreement or a different construction. Articles and sentence structure also need attention in “Map depicts” and the fragment-like “Whereas hospital road connects…”. Use consistent past-tense forms when describing the maps, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation when joining clauses. These corrections would make the varied structures more controlled.
