The two maps below show road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Given the maps illustrate the road access to a city hospital in 2007 and 2010.
Overall, the area for city hospital was less in 2010 than in 2007. There were major changes in many parts of the plan in 2010 such as adding new roundabout and separate car parks for the staff and the public.
In the both plans ring road situated North to the city hospital. Furthermore, the hospital road and the city road placed in the same place as in 2007.
Additionally, there were lots of changes in the plan of 2010 rather than 2007. While, in 2007, there was a car park for both staff and public, and it separated in 2010 as two car parks. The public car park located East to the city hospital and staff car park remained the same place as in 2007. The six bus stops replaced with a bus station in 2010. It located between two roundabouts. The two junction located eaither sides of the hospital road was renewed with two roundabouts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main transformation: the shared car park becomes separate staff and public facilities, and the six bus stops are replaced by a bus station. You also mention the two new roundabouts, so the response covers several important changes. However, the overview claim that the hospital area was “less” in 2010 is unsupported, and some locations are inaccurate: the public car park is east of the Ring Road, not east of the hospital, while the staff car park remains east of Hospital Road. The statement that the Ring Road is north of the hospital is incomplete because it also runs along the west and east sides. To strengthen the report, give a more accurate overview and describe the key locations and unchanged features precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and the reader can identify the main comparison. However, progression within the body is uneven: the paragraph beginning “In the both plans” gives only a brief, partly unclear account of unchanged roads, then the final paragraph repeats that there were “lots of changes.” Linking is sometimes mechanical or inaccurate, as in “Additionally” and “While,” which does not form a complete contrast here. References such as “It located between two roundabouts” are also unclear because the subject is not explicitly stated. Organise the details into a clearer sequence—for example, road layout first, then parking and bus facilities—and use linking words only where the relationship is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “roundabouts,” “bus station,” “car parks,” and “replaced,” which helps communicate the main changes. There is some variety in how you describe the facilities, but several word choices and collocations are imprecise or repetitive: “area for city hospital was less” does not clearly express a map change, and “separated” is less suitable than a term describing the division of one car park into two. “Situated” and “placed” are repeated for locations, and “lots of changes” is informal and vague for an academic report. Spelling errors such as “eaither” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of verbs for map changes and use standard directional phrases consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex structures, including “While, in 2007…” and “The six bus stops replaced with a bus station,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences omit necessary articles or verbs: “Given the maps illustrate” needs a complete introductory construction, and “The public car park located…” needs a form of “be.” Other examples include “In the both plans” and “The two junction located,” where article use and sentence structure are faulty. The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, and the attempted contrast with “While” is not completed as a balanced sentence. Practise accurate past-tense passive forms for changes, such as “were replaced,” and check each sentence for a subject, a finite verb, and appropriate articles.
