Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons wherever relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The maps illustrate the directions of road to city hospital in 2007 and 2010.

Overall the Ring road wasat the same place in both years, while there is a significant change in the locations of Bus stop. The bus stand was located in east in 2007, wheaas it is now in the opposite direction which is west.

The parking area is same for the public in 2007 and 2010,but there is a special place researved for staff car parking in 2010.

There is a big difference of the designs of hospital road from 2007 to 2010 .The straight road is now turned in to round in 2010 and there are two big rotray between the bus stand and parking lot designated for employees .The bus terminal is completely in the opposite path in 2010.

To conclude the map of 2010 have a premium design and is a refined form of the plan of 2007.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main contrast between the maps: the bus stops are replaced by a bus station, and the shared car park becomes separate staff and public parking. You also note that the Ring Road remains in place and that roundabouts are added. These are relevant features and give the response a clear overall comparison. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the 2007 bus stops were on both sides of Hospital Road, not simply in the east, and the 2010 bus station is west of the road. The public car park is newly added beside the Ring Road, rather than being the same parking area as in 2007. The description of the road as “turned in to round” also misrepresents the two roundabouts. Select and explain these changes more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an opening statement to an overview and then to further comparisons. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “while,” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the response. However, the progression between details is not always clear: the paragraph about parking shifts to the road design, and the final paragraph gives an opinion about a “premium design” rather than summarising the map changes. Some references, including “the opposite direction” and “the opposite path,” are difficult to interpret. Grouping the changes into a clear sequence—road layout, bus facilities, then parking—and using precise references would make the account easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “Ring Road,” “parking area,” “roundabouts,” and “bus terminal,” and attempt some less common expressions such as “designated for employees.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing maps. “Bus stand” and “bus terminal” do not consistently identify the labelled bus station, while “premium design” is an unsupported evaluation rather than a neutral description. There are also spelling errors, including “wheaas,” “researved,” and “rotray,” which reduce precision. Aim for standard, factual terms such as “bus stops,” “bus station,” “staff car park,” and “public car park,” and use verbs such as “was replaced by” or “was added” to describe changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison with “while” and a contrast using “whereas.” The main meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors make the relationships less clear. For example, “The maps illustrate the directions of road” needs a more suitable noun phrase, and “The parking area is same” is missing an article. Tense and agreement also need attention in “the map of 2010 have,” while “there are two big rotray between” has an unclear sentence structure. Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and full stops. Check articles, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries when revising.
