Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the maps as showing changes between 2007 and 2010 and mention several relevant features, including the new public car park, the staff car park and the roundabouts. However, the overview is unclear: “significant redevelopment” is broad, and “existing feature upgraded the view of location” does not explain the main changes. Some details are inaccurate or difficult to interpret. The bus stops were removed and replaced by a bus station west of Hospital Road, not simply moved from the east to the west. The 2007 car park was east of Hospital Road, rather than at the east and south corner. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview and describe the key changes precisely, including the bus station and the two roundabouts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an introduction, an overview and two body paragraphs, and the contrast between the years gives it a basic organising framework. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow because several ideas are compressed into unclear sentences, such as “the main road just initiate divide into four roads” and “the main road in south added two big circle.” Linking expressions including “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “In addition” are used, but they do not always show the relationship between the details accurately. Some references, such as “their” and “which,” are also unclear. Organise the description by location or by change, and use direct links such as “By 2010” and “In contrast” only where they clarify the comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary suited to describing maps, including “layout,” “redevelopment,” “surrounded,” and “connected,” and you use some relevant labels from the maps. However, the range is limited by inaccurate word choice, awkward collocations and spelling errors that sometimes make the meaning hard to understand. For example, “replace Bus stop from east and added into the west” does not accurately describe the bus station, while “two big circle” is an imprecise way to refer to roundabouts. Errors such as “desparity,” “entrence,” and “joine” also reduce clarity. Build a reliable set of terms for map changes—such as “was replaced by,” “was added,” and “was located to the west of”—and check spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to use longer structures, including “Overall, it can be seen that…” and “Whereas…,” but complex sentences are often incomplete or incorrectly formed. For instance, “Overall…; with new facilities added” leaves a fragment after the semicolon, and “in 2007 the Hospital had a simple layout Ring Road in norther part surrounded by City Hospital” lacks clear sentence structure. Verb forms and agreement are also unreliable, as in “the main road… added two big circle” and “which remain stable.” These errors frequently make relationships between features difficult to follow. Practise writing short, complete comparison sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses using “while” or “whereas”; check articles, verb tense and singular/plural forms.
