Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two years and mention several relevant changes, including the bus station, staff car park, public car park and roundabouts. However, the account is incomplete and some locations are unclear: the public car park is east of the Ring Road, not simply “right side of the city hospital,” and the two roundabouts are at the Ring Road and City Road junctions with Hospital Road. The overview repeats that there were changes but does not clearly summarise the main transformation, such as replacing the bus stops with a bus station and separating staff and public parking. The response is 141 words, below the required 150. Add accurate comparisons and a concise overview of the key changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has paragraph breaks and a basic chronological focus, first referring to 2007 and then to 2010. This gives the reader some sense of the comparison. However, ideas are not arranged in a clear progression: the overview repeats the introduction, and the final sentences return to general claims about development rather than completing a structured comparison. Connections between details are also weak, as in “On the city road have roundabout” followed by “A roundabout on the hospital road.” Organise the report into an introduction, a clear overview, and separate paragraphs comparing the 2007 and 2010 layouts. Use linking phrases such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile” to show relationships between changes.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a small set of relevant map terms, including “ring road,” “bus station,” “staff car park” and “roundabout,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, vocabulary is basic and repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “change,” “city hospital” and “road.” Several choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “many changing,” “car parking” for the labelled car park, and “build it new,” which make some descriptions awkward or unclear. Spelling errors such as “rigth” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range for describing map changes—for example, “was converted into,” “was added,” and “was relocated”—and use directional terms consistently to distinguish east, west, north and south.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly uses short, simple statements, with limited control of more varied sentence structures. Errors occur frequently in basic sentence formation and agreement: “The two picture illustrate” needs a plural noun and verb, while “the picture give” and “city hospital have” also show agreement problems. Verb forms and tense are inconsistent, as in “was update,” “there were many change,” and “have developed.” Some clauses lack a clear grammatical structure, including “On the city road have roundabout.” These errors sometimes make relationships between locations difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and complete subject–verb–object sentences, then combine related details using simple clauses such as “A bus station was built west of Hospital Road.”
